Historically, the Motown imprint has been one of the most influential labels and movements in all of urban and popular music. With the recent addition of Motown Gospel, the label continues to speak to the full length of the urban music platform. With this new effort Motown Christmas, the label brings together the best of its R&B and gospel rosters for some amazing pairings on its first holiday project in over 40 years!!

Grammy award winning producer and Motown Gospel VP of A&R Aaron Lindsey sits in the producer’s chair for this incredible effort. Sixteen tracks strong, this project fits the bill as one of the most musical and star-studded holiday projects since the heralded Grammy award winning project Handel’s Messiah: A Soulful Celebration. The project kicks off with an incredible fusion of veteran star power and new school flavor as industry veteran Smokey Robinson & The Miracles team with newcomer Kevin Ross for “It’s Christmas Time”. This partnership sets the stage sonically and conceptually for this incredible yuletide ride filled with dream collaborations.

R&B sensation Ne-Yo teams with gospel’s “chain breaker” Tasha Cobbs for their spin on the Nat King Cole classic “The Christmas Song”. This collaboration lives up to the billing and would certainly do Nat King Cole proud. The urban classic “This Christmas”, made popular by Donny Hathaway, is masterfully presented by two of Motown Gospel’s newest signees, Brian Courtney Wilson and Gene Moore. The tone, placement, and skill of these gentlemen makes this one of the best renditions of this single to date.

Speaking of tone, perhaps no two artists bring such rich tones to the table as Gregory Porter & Anita Wilson. Together, they perform a medley of  “Go Tell It On The Mountain” and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”. Needless to say, this is a brilliant musical concept and is executed brilliantly by these amazing talents.

With amazing voices and reality TV in common, vocalists Kierra Sheard and Chrisette Michele come together for a powerful presentation of the Christmas carol “Angels We Have Heard On High”. Equally powerful is the partnership of india.arie and Gene Moore on “Mary Did You Know”.

Not to be undone is the gifted producer Aaron Lindsey, whose orchestra, The Aaron Lindsey Orchestra provides amazing contributions such as “Mary’s Revelation Interlude” and the incredible “Christmas Overture (Medley)” which are as regal, reverent, and musical as any orchestral score found on any soundtrack! The “Christmas Overture (Medley)” serves as an intro to “Joy To The World” featuring Micah Stampley & Sheri Jones Moffett that will get your ready for church in a heartbeat.

From the amazing start to the epic conclusion of “Silent Night” from The Temptations, this project is one of the best Christmas projects of the decade and will add depth and color to your holiday playlist. Pick this one up today!
