REVIEW: Fred Hammond–“Christmas…Just Remember”

Fred Hammond-Just Remember (Christmas)We’re going back to 2001 for the lone Christmas project in the arsenal of Grammy award winner Fred Hammond. Throughout his 30-year career, Hammond has been known for his smooth delivery, forward thinking arrangements, and eloquent songwriting skills. Put all of that through the holiday-themed lens of Christmas and you have the timeless effort Christmas…Just Remember.

Twelve tracks strong, this effort features production from Hammond, along with longtime musical collaborators Noel Hall, Tommie Walker, and Luther “Mano” Hanes. The project kicks off with the track “His Name Is Jesus”, which pays homage to his Commissioned roots, as Hammond laces the track with his rich background vocals.

This project is one of the first from Hammond to really feature the strength of the acoustic guitar. The intimate and warm “We Sing Glory” along with “A Strange Way To Save The World” showcase the pure genius of Hammond’s voice backed by an acoustic guitar.

Fans of Hammond’s worship group Radical For Christ will immediately love “Blessing and Honor (reprise)”, which is an ode to The Spirit of David release, the second from Fred and RFC. The RFC feel continues on tracks like “God Has Been Good” and the uptempo jam “He Is The Reason”.

From cover to cover, this project is timeless and is a perfect reminder of the authentic origins of the Christmas holiday. Hammond masterfully captures the spirit of the season with an album that remains as relevant today as it was during its 2001 release.
