John Cena Tapped To Host ESPY Awards

John CenaCongratulations to WWE superstar and 15-time world champion John Cena who has been tapped to host the 2016 ESPY Awards, as announced by ESPN. This year’s ESPY Awards will emanate from the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles and air live on ABC on July 13 at 8p ET.

Cena makes history as the first professional wrestler to host the event. He also joins NBA superstar Lebron James and former cycling great Lance Armstrong as only the third athlete to serve as host of the revered sports event.

ESPYs logoCena has actually been away from the ring for roughly five months nursing a shoulder injury. The injury was thought to keep Cena out of wrestling action for roughly nine months. However, he is ready to go and is set to return to the WWE ring on May 30. He did make a brief appearance in WWE at Wrestlemania 32 as he joined The Rock to briefly battle members of The Wyatt Family.

Outside of wrestling, Cena is hosting a new competition show on FOX TV titled American Grit. Airing Thursdays at 9p ET, the ten-episode series features sixteen of the country’s toughest men and women who are split into four teams as they work together to face a variety of military-grade and survival-themed challenges.

The West Newbury, MA native continues to be a regular mainstay in mainstream television as he has regularly appeared on E’s Total Divas reality show and will be a part of the upcoming spinoff series this fall titled Total Bellas. He will also appear on NBC’s The Today Show on May 30 prior to making his return to WWE’s Monday Night Raw.
