Central City Productions have announced the nominations for the 32nd Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards. This year’s ceremony will emanate from the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas for the third consecutive year. Hailed as an “Epic Night in Gospel Music”, the event takes place on Saturday, March 25, 2017 and will premiere on TV One on April 9 at 7p ET.
Multi-time Stellar Award winners Erica Campbell and Anthony Brown will serve as this year’s hosts. Worship leader and RCA Inspiration recording artist Travis Greene along with fellow Grammy nominee Tamela Mann lead all artists with nine nominations this year. Led by the singles “Intentional” and “Made A Way”, Greene picked up nods in categories such as Song of the Year, CD of the Year, and Male Vocalist of the Year for his release The Hill. Similarly, Tamela Mann picks up nods in categories including Artist of the Year, Song of the Year (“God Provides”), and CD of the Year for her latest release One Way.
Industry veteran Kirk Franklin picked up seven nominations for his chart topping release Losing My Religion, including nods for Artist of the Year, Producer of the Year, and Music Video of the Year for “Wanna Be Happy”. Hezekiah Walker’s anthem “Better” led him to six nominations this year including Urban Inspirational Single of the Year, Contemporary Male Vocalist of the Year, and Choir of the Year for the release Azusa The Next Generation 2: Better.
Both Jekalyn Carr and Todd Dulaney picked up five nominations. As both have picked up their first Grammy nominations this year, Carr picks up nods in the all important categories of Artist of the Year and Song of the Year for her #1 single “You’re Bigger”. Meanwhile, Dulaney’s release A Worshipper’s Heart picked up recognition for Male Vocalist of the Year, CD of the Year, and Praise & Worship of the Year.
“Our 2017 nominees represent the strongest group of Gospel artists and songs in our 32-year history of the Stellar Awards,” shared Don Jackson, Founder of the Stellar Awards and Chairman of Central City Productions, Inc. “This year’s large number of artists who are first-time nominees is a positive testament to the new and upcoming artists in Gospel Music, as well as, a reflection of the tremendous growth of the Gospel Music Genre.”
“The announcement of the 2017 nominees corresponds with the launch of www.stellartv.com, the first phase of the Stellar TV Cable Television Network, which will be officially introduced during the taping at the 32nd Annual Stellar Awards on March 25, 2017,” continued Jackson.
The Stellar Awards show taping is open to the public, with ticket prices ranging from $50 – $200 at www.ticketmaster.com.
The Stellar Gospel Music Awards Pre-Show is scheduled for Friday, March 24 to showcase non-televised awards winners. Also, the Stellar Gospel Radio Awards & Showcase will be held on Saturday, March 25, honoring top radio stations and announcers serving urban gospel music audiences.
