Grammy Award winning rap mogul Jay-Z has signed a deal with Samsung for his upcoming album release, Magna Carta Holy Grail. The announcement of the album was made via a Samsung commercial during Game 5 of the NBA finals Sunday night. Magna Carta Holy Grail will release on July 4, first to Samsung Galaxy users who purchase a special app and then to the general public on July 7. The first one million users of the app will receive free downloads of Jay-Z's twelfth album release. This deal is reportedly worth $20 million dollars.
In the three-minute ad, Jay-Z is seen recording and brainstorming in the studio with legendary producers Rick Rubin, Pharrell Williams, Timbaland and Swizz Beatz. He has also been seen in the studio collaborating with Drake and Justin Timberlake.
The special delivery of Jay-Z's album announcement is very similar to that of his superstar wife, Beyonce. Mrs. Carter signed deals with Pepsi and H&M which have featured snippets of her songs "Grown Woman" and "Standing On The Sun", respectively.
The rap icon describes Magna Carta Holy Grail as a study of duality. "How do you navigate your way through this whole thing — like success, through failures, through all this — and remain yourself?" he asks.
Magna Carta Holy Grail will be available to the general public on July 7. If you're not a Samsung Galaxy owner, will you purchase the smartphone to receive the album 72 hours earlier?

The last 18 months have seen Pugh transition from life as an artist to becoming a label owner and executive with the launch of his new imprint EPM Music Group.
